Carpet Tiles

Craig Sargeant and the team at Sargeant Carpets Bognor Regis are carpet tile specialists and have a full range of products to choose from.  We offer residential and commercial carpet tiles which are perfect for a variety of locations including offices, classrooms, shops, corridors and anywhere with a high footfall.

Benefits of carpet tiles

Carpet tiles are a cost effective and practical flooring solution.  They are low maintenance, hard wearing and easy to replace if one becomes damaged or soiled.   Regular hoovering and cleaning up any spills will keep them looking their best and if one is stained beyond repair then it can easily be replaced.

There is less cutting and wastage when fitting carpet tiles compared with a traditional carpet.  This is particularly true in rooms with unusual shapes or odd angles, so it saves time as well as cost.

Modern carpet tiles are warm and comfortable underfoot, offering superb noise absorption benefits.  Sound levels in busy offices, bars and restaurants are noticeably reduced with the use of carpet tiles.

Carpet tile ratings

Carpet tiles have a European classification with associated ratings which demonstrate where they should be used and how much traffic they can withstand.   They should be classified with ‘EN 985 carpet tiles’ and a rating of 23 means ‘Domestic Heavy’ so the carpet tile can be used for heavy domestic use.   A carpet tile rating of 31 means that it’s suitable for ‘Commercial Moderate’ use.   A rating of 32 shows that it can be used for ‘Commercial General’ use, for example general office use.  A carpet tile rating of 33 means that it’s suitable for ‘Commercial Heavy’ use which includes heavy duty office use with castor chairs.  Higher ratings are used for other uses, such as 41 which is an industrial grade carpet tile.

As castor chairs with wheels can flatten the pile of the carpet, it’s important to get the right grade of carpet tile if you are going to use typical office chairs with them.  Carpet tiles which are used in offices have an additional rating of A and B, where A is suitable for continuous caster chair use and B is suitable for occasional caster chair use.   All carpet tiles should be used with a castor chair mat, which protects the carpet and provides ease of movement.  Castor chair mats are usually made from clear PVC, polypropylene or polycarbonate.  Using a mat is a requirement for the manufacturers’ warranties so it’s vital and will extend the life of your carpet tiles.

Carpet tile designs

Carpet tiles are available in an extensive variety of patterns, colours and shapes.  Carpet tile patterns include striped and speckled finishes, and shapes such as hexagons and triangles allow you to create a unique, stylish design.  Multicoloured carpet tiles offer unlimited options including stripes, checkerboard and zig zag patterns.  Different parts of the room or space can feature different combinations to create an eye-catching design.

At Sargeant Carpets, square carpet tiles are usually installed in a checkerboard effect unless another design has been discussed with the customer.  This pattern gives a uniform finish and also has the benefit of helping to disguise the joins.

Carpet tile styles

Carpet tiles are available in a wide range of styles including loop pile carpet tiles, cut pile carpet tiles, low level loop pile, multi-level loop pile, twist pile, polypropylene and nylon tufted loop pile carpet tiles.

Polyproylene tiles are a more cost-effective option but less durable than nylon carpet tiles.

As a carpet tile specialist, Craig Sargeant at Sargeant Carpets can advise which type of carpet tile would work best for your space and budget.

Commercial carpet tiles

In commercial settings, carpet tiles are easily lifted to access cables located under the substrate floor.  No underlay is required, so they can be quickly removed when needed.  This is really helpful during office moves, or in areas of constant change like conference rooms.

Some of our manufacturers produce expo versions of their carpet tiles.  These allow venues such as sports halls and community centres to transform into carpeted rooms for an event using carpet tiles which can then be stored away afterwards.
